We recently went on the Gourmet Food Walking Tour in Athens and it was a truly delightful experience. The tour was well-organized and our private food-expert guide was knowledgeable and engaging, providing us with valuable insights into Greek cuisine and the city’s culinary heritage.
The tour included seven food stops and 12 tastings, allowing us to sample a wide variety of delicious Greek specialties, from koulóuria (sesame bread rings) to loukoumades (Greek donuts), as well as regional cheeses, Greek wine, and freshly brewed coffee. We also had the opportunity to explore Varvakios Agora, the central market in Athens, with our expert guide, who gave us a fascinating history of the market and its significance to Greek cuisine.
One of the highlights of the tour was the personalized attention we received from our guide, who tailored the tour to our interests and preferences. We were also impressed by the quality of the local products we sampled, including organic olive oil and wine, which were of the highest quality.
The tour also provided us with an opportunity to explore some of Athens’ most vibrant neighborhoods, such as Psirri, which is known for its traditional tavernas and restaurants serving meze and live music. The tour ended back at the meeting point in Monastiraki square, where we were able to shop for artisanal soaps, handmade sandals, and souvenir T-shirts at the Monastiraki Flea Market.
Overall, we highly recommend the Gourmet Food Walking Tour in Athens to anyone interested in exploring Greek cuisine and learning more about the city’s culinary heritage. The tour was well-organized, informative, and provided us with an opportunity to sample some of the most delicious food in Athens.
