During our trip to Athens, we found ourselves drawn to Ydria, a charming restaurant situated in the beautiful part of Plaka. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had discovered a gem. With its lovely interior and exterior seating, Ydria offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a romantic date or a gathering with friends and family.
On our first visit, we decided to have an afternoon snack after exploring the Roman Forum. We enjoyed it so much that we returned for lunch the next day, basking in the sunshine as we dined al fresco. The staff at Ydria were among the friendliest we encountered during our stay in Athens, providing attentive, polite, and welcoming service.
The menu at Ydria is a delightful blend of Greek creative cuisine and classic dishes. We savored their mouthwatering moussaka, truffle & cheese fries, Greek salad, and banana split. Each dish was not only delicious but also reasonably priced for the quality and flavor.
Despite encountering a staff member trying to entice passers-by to dine at the restaurant—an approach that typically suggests a tourist trap—we were not deterred. In fact, we would have happily returned for a third time just for the truffle fries!
On another visit, we opted for the exceptional moussaka, which exceeded our expectations with its perfectly balanced flavors. The grilled chicken, infused with lemon and garlic, was cooked to perfection, and the mixed “creams” appetizer offered a delightful beginning to our meal. To end on a sweet note, we shared a scrumptious dessert cake that was more than enough for two.
The dining experience at Ydria was made even better by the attentive and warm service we received. The cost of our meal, which included water and wine, was very reasonable for the quality of food and overall experience.
