We recently embarked on the Athens Day Cruise, which took us on a captivating journey through the Saronic Gulf, visiting the picturesque islands of Aegina and Agistri. The entire experience exceeded our expectations, as we were able to explore the beautiful coastlines of these two islands on a private, elegant wooden boat, without the stress and hassle of taking a ferry.
The tour started at Marina Zeas, where we boarded the boat with our fellow travelers. The day was well-organized, with ample time allotted for sightseeing, swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying the on-board amenities. The boat itself was spacious and comfortable, featuring Wi-Fi and snorkeling equipment for guests to use during the trip.
Our first stop was Agistri, a hidden gem in the Saronic Gulf known for its stunning natural environment and secluded beaches. We spent about an hour and a half wandering through the charming streets of Megalochori, admiring the quaint houses and taverns, and exploring the island’s spectacular beaches, including Dragonera, Skala, Aponisos, and Chalikiada. The authenticity and tranquility of Agistri left a lasting impression on us.
Next, we headed to Aponisos Beach, where we spent another hour and a half enjoying the pristine, crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. The beach offered the perfect spot for both swimming and snorkeling, with the provided equipment allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the underwater wonders of the Saronic Gulf.
Finally, we arrived at Aegina, the largest island in the Saronic Gulf, steeped in ancient history dating back to 500 B.C. During our two-hour stay, we explored the well-preserved Greek temple of Aphaia, one of the three temples comprising the Sacred Triangle of Greece. We also took the opportunity to sample Aegina’s world-famous pistachio nuts and visit the island’s stunning beaches of Marathon, Agia Marina, and Perdika, which is renowned for its seafood taverns.
Throughout the day, we were treated to a delicious selection of drinks, snacks, coffee, tea, brunch, and lunch on board the boat. The food was fresh and tasty, and the crew was attentive and friendly, ensuring that all guests were well taken care of.
In conclusion, the Athens Day Cruise is a must-do experience for anyone looking to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Saronic Gulf and its enchanting islands.
