Cretan flavors from the Troulakis family.
Twenty years together, we continue the tradition!
We are the Troulakis family, from Chania. Our love for Crete and for the preservation of the Cretan tradition, prompted us to open a traditional Cretan tavern in 2000, in order to teach people to eat properly and healthily.
We chose the name Pasiphae because we know that Pasiphae was the queen of Minoan Crete in 2000 B.C. and we wanted to make her the queen of taste in 2000 A.D. We all know something that is universally proven, that Cretan cuisine is the best and the healthiest. That is why, with a soulful commitment, our goal is to preserve our tradition and bring to light recipes that have been forgotten. We assure you, fellow Cretans, that we have succeeded. People from all over Greece, but also from many parts of the world, have passed by and tasted our Cretan dishes. It is also no coincidence that we have cooked live on many Greek TV shows, as well as on foreign channels, such as the discovery channel, showing traditional recipes.
Our motto is the return to our roots, the return to the traditional dietary habits of the Cretans, to maintain good health. We offer a wide variety of flavors prepared from pure raw materials. Most of our ingredients are from Crete and all our dishes are made in a homemade, traditional way, as our grandmothers did, based on olive oil, which contributes to good health. So our love for Crete and Greece in general, since we believe that one of the means of preserving our rich heritage is our cuisine, we opened this Cretan house.
A house decorated with arches and old objects from our paternal home, dominated by stone, wood and the Minoan colour, deep red. In this house, anyone who comes here does not feel like a customer, but a guest who will taste large homemade portions, drink homemade Cretan wine or raki and have fun with the sounds of the lyre and the lute. Thus, he automatically becomes a member of our family. They all feel this because at the end, giving them the book of impressions, they write us – apart from mantinades – that we took them to Crete and they feel that they are at home.
With all this we managed to bring back to life old memories and smells of Crete for the older meracles and to teach the younger meracles what tradition and good food are.
So we are waiting to host you and as we say:
“Whoever has a headache and is very dizzy should come and drink wine to get back in the mood”
